The Dolphin Coast earns its name, with bottlenose dolphins seen close to shore all year. From about June to November, humpback whales pass by on their migration between Antarctica and Mozambique, and southern right whales are sometimes spotted too. The promenade, Salt Rock's terraces and beachfront balconies all make great lookouts.
Insider tip: Bring binoculars and scan for spouts on calm mornings in July and October, when sightings tend to peak.
